The city’s name is a straightforward translation of ‘New Hamburg’, which is an indication of the strong German immigrant influence in that area. This cultural heritage is evident in Alisson’s family line; both his father and grandmother were fluent in German, and Alisson himself was brought up trilingual, switching naturally among Portuguese, English, and German.

Alisson, who celebrates his birthday on October 2 1992 was brought up in a family where football, and In particular goalkeeping, was quite literally the passing down of a family artifact. Not only was his father, Jos Agostinho Becker, a goalkeeper, but his grandfather also had it as a hobby. Being a fan of his father’s matches, Alisson was almost unconsciously getting the hang of the position even before he could walk properly.

Alisson Family and Personal Life

Besides Alisson, the Becker family even made two pro goalkeepers. Alisson’s older brother, Muriel Becker, is also a professional goalkeeper same as Alisson, but he has been playing top class football mainly in South America and Europe. Up till now, his club is AEL Limassol from Cyprus. Their sibling rivalry was not just a source of motivation. Actually, the two brothers even competed for the same starting position at the same time while playing for Internacional, a situation that helped Alisson develop his ambition and resilience that had a lasting impact on his career.

Natlia Loewe, Brazil doctor, was the one Alisson married in 2015. They have three children. Their daughter Helena came along in April 2017, then son Matteo in June 2019, and a third child after that. Natlia has always been the one who comes to football matches and even talks about how she has to balance working as a doctor and at the same time being the wife of a professional footballer.

Unfortunately, the family was hit by a tragedy in February 2021 when Jos Agostinho Becker, the father of Alisson and the one who motivated him to become a goalkeeper, passed away after drowning in the lake near his vacation house in the southern part of Brazil. He was 57. After this tragedy, Alisson responded with one of the most unforgettable emotional scenes in Premier League even history.

When he is not involved in football, Alisson likes to fish, play guitar and watch tennis which shows a side of him that is quite different from the one we see on the field.

The Estudio Beira Rio academy provided him with their formulaic training, but the path to the first team was far from a walk in the park.

He officially stepped up to the senior level for the first time in February 2013 when Internacional and Cruzeiro matched each other with a goal each. Still, his brother Muriel held the first choice position at that moment, with Alisson remaining the understudy for quite some time and only making six appearances in his debut season. Later, the club made a signing of the legendary AC Milan and Brazil player Dida to battle with Alisson for the goalkeeper position, This way presenting yet one more huge hurdle for him to overcome.

One on One Situations: In one on one football confrontations, Alisson is often considered the greatest goalkeeper ever. He surprises attackers by walking calmly, e. g. Pushing them towards their weaker foot, and then countering with a well timed, skillful move at the very last moment, which makes him practically unbeatable in these situations.

Distribution: His excellence in kickstarting attacks by accurately choosing between a long or short one makes him a goalkeeping artist, starting the offensive moves. His distribution is the key factor behind not only Klopp’s high pressing style but also Arne Slot’s possession based game.

Leadership: Being Liverpool’s main goalkeeper and a senior player for the Brazil national team, Alisson commands the defensive line with powerful vocal leadership. His giving instructions and leading by example in a positional sense help defenders handle pressure and also help the team to be structurally cohesive.
